Millard West high school kicked off their Cinderella's Closet project. The school's National Honor Society collects prom dresses and then donates them to young women who can't afford the dresses.
Nicole Muirhead is a senior at the high school and coordinates the project. Tuesday, she and other students from the group wore prom dresses to class to promote Cinderella's Closet and increase donations.
“It's important for me to feel like I'm pretty on prom and I feel like every girl should really have that opportunity.”
On March 15th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the dresses will be open to teens in need. Together, Inc., near 24th and Leavenworth, will have even have dressings room and dresses will be given out at no charge.
This is the second year of the project. Last year, the group got more than 100 dress donations, but only handed out about fifteen.
This year, Millard students have increased their advertising at other Omaha high schools, and will have a Cinderella's Closet box for donations in the Event Center at Nebraska Furniture Mart. Donations will also be accepted at Together, Inc. through March 14.
WOWT NBC Omaha is proud to sponsor Cinderella's Closet.
