The Cinco de Mayo Omaha 2013 festival will run Wednesday May 1 through Sunday May 5. This year’s festival will include a new golf tournament.
The celebration will include a full carnival along South 25h Street and a two-block area of activities just for children called “Mundo de Ninos” on South 24th Street between M & O Streets.
Free live music from local entertainers and some national acts will also be featured throughout the weekend on the Plaza at 24th & N Street.
The schedule of events include:
May 1: Reception to honor 2013 Sponsors and Grand Marshals at the Livestock Exchange Building’s 10th floor ballroom. The reception starts at 5:30pm with presentations beginning at 6:30pm. Mariachis will entertain guests and photo exhibits on Latino baseball in Omaha and Latin music in South Omaha will be on display. Registration to attend is available online.
May 2: Metropolitan Community College luncheon. The celebration will run from Noon until 1:30pm at the South Omaha Campus in the ITC Conference Center, Room 120. The keynote speaker will be Juan M. Izaguirre, Director of the Multicultural Affairs Office at Florida Atlantic University.
May 3: Carnival begins at 5:30pm along South 25th Street from M to O Street. Tropa Vallenata will perform at Plaza de la Raza at 25th & N beginning at 7pm. The Cinco de Mayo Queen Coronation will also take place that evening.
May 4: Parade begins at 10am from 24th & B to 24th & M. A car show at South 24th & O and a fiesta will follow the parade along with food booths, a full carnival, live music, and a variety of vendors and exhibitors. More than 80 shops and restaurants offering a wide variety of Mexican cuisine will be open.
May 5: Mariachi Mass at 10am on Plaza de la Raza at 25th & N. Health fair opens at Noon. The carnival, food and vendor booths, and live entertainment festivities continue from Noon until 10pm. National act Los Terribles del Norte will be featured in the evening with a free concert.
The first-ever Cinco de Mayo Golf Tournament begins at 1pm at Miracle Hills Golf Course May 5.
