Burglars seem to be targeting one Heartland complex; breaking in, stealing electronics and leaving a very cold calling card.
But the people who live in the Country Estates Townhomes are spreading the word and protecting themselves.
Danny Oluyole recently moved his family into the Country Estates because he figured it would be a nice, safe place to raise his growing family.
One bad night hasn't changed his mind.
Dammy Oluyole says, "Two of my cars were damaged; one the windshield was broken, my other car was ransacked totally. I'm not sure what has been stolen yet and that happened to a couple other residents."
Dammy says one of the selling points of the complex was the security staff and community policing in place at Country Estates.
It seems that the crooks are taking it up a notch, according to police reports now they're breaking into townhomes sometimes while the victims are sleeping. The first indication the victims have that anything is wrong is when they wake up freezing because the thieves have left the front door open.
People who live in the area say the thieves are breaking in the backside of the townhomes, grabbing what they can and running out.
In at least one instance the family was asleep at the time of the burglary.
Dammy Oluyole says, "What could have happened in that scenario and what if my home is next so that raises the security risk for me a great deal."
Dammy says he will take the measures necessary to protect his family.
Channel 6 News asked for comment from the complex management but we were told they had no comment.
