The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has terminated child care subsidies to two Metro daycares after billing discrepancies were allegedly found in the businesses records.
Wise Kids Inc. at 60th and Sorensen Parkway and Kids Ark Learning Center located near 61st and Ames were the subjects of an audit by State Auditor Mike Foley. It is not clear why or how the two daycares were selected for an audit.
The daycare centers, according to State Auditor Foley, have received over $11.7 million in Federal and State funds since 2003. One of the two centers, Wise Kids, was placed on disciplinary probation by DHHS in 2005-2006 and was assessed a civil penalty of $5,715.
According to Foley the two daycares have over billed the state every year since 2004 with prior total over billings in those years in excess of $80,000.
A spokesperson for the Department of Heath and Human Services tells Channel 6 News that the daycares are still under investigation and because it deals with billing records over a period of years the investigation will “take some time.”
