An Omaha man on probation for a federal weapons charge was arrested Saturday morning following a vehicle and foot chase, during which an unregistered handgun was recovered.
Police investigating suspicious activity involving four men near North 33rd Street and Whitmore Avenue just after 2 a.m. approached a car, which drove off. As officers attempted to stop the car at 31st Avenue and Ida Street, a gun was thrown from the vehicle.
The pursuit continued on the ground and from the air with the help of the police helicopter. The car stopped at 27th and Jaynes and the four suspects inside ran from the scene.
Officers were able to catch 28-year-old Trenayne Cooper, who was booked for obstructing a peace officer.
