Monday was on the mild side but summer is coming and local charities are gearing up.
At 8 o’clock Monday morning, the Open Door Mission had 45 fans to give away but by 10:30 things had changed.
ODM’s CEO, Candace Gregory, said, “We actually do not even have one fan left to give out this Monday morning."
That has Gregory worried.
“Now going into the triple digit weather where it will be really hot, these families do not live in air conditioned homes they do not have central air they don't even have window air conditioning units so they're signing up for a fan."
Over at the Salvation Army they had approximately 200 fans on hand. Last year they gave out more than 1,000. Any donations would be very welcome.
The Salvation Army’s Tiffanie McCowin said, “We try to make sure that we are able to provide fans to those people that are going to be desperately in need of some kind of cool relief and the priority is given to those people that are seniors 50 years and older and those people with disabilities."
In addition to fans, both the Open Door Mission and The Salvation Army could really use donations of bottled water.
