Players of the Mega Millions lottery game will have to get used to some mega changes.
Starting Saturday, the numbers of white balls from which five winners are drawn will increase from 56 up to 75. The numbers of balls from which the Mega Ball number is drawn will decrease from 46 to 15.
The cost of a ticket remains $1. Lottery officials say the jackpots will grow by at least $5 million after each drawing that has no winner. The second place prize will increase from $250,000 to $1 million.
Before the changes, the odds of winning the jackpot were one in 175,711,536. The odds now are one in 258,890,850. The odds of winning something will increase from one in 75 to one in 21.
Mega Millions is played in 43 states, including Nebraska and Iowa. Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays.
