A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Pawnee and Richardson counties in southeast Nebraska until 3 p.m. Thursday.
In a news release, Stenberg points out that 34,000 parents each month receive a paper statement confirming the child support they owe for that month. But these parents don't actually handle the transaction, the State Treasurer's office collects the money and distributes it. So the monthly paper statement is just a means up informing the parent.
Now, those 34,000 parents will be told that to access their monthly statements they will have to use a secure website operated by the state, or they can access the information over an automated phone system.
If parents request that they continue to receive a paper statement, one will be sent.
Stenberg estimates the change will save about $200,000 a year.
