On April 26 communities across Nebraska are teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to give the public the opportunity to safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.
Traditional methods for disposing of unused medications—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose threats to drinking water supplies.
Additionally, leftover medications are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
