Long time educator and current Central High School principal, Dr. Keith Bigsby has announced he will retire at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.
Bigsby has spent 30 years as a professional educator, with the last three years as principal at Central.
Throughout the years, Bigsby has had many roles in the district. From a marketing teacher to helping implement new programs, his work took him to a variety of schools and locations in the district. He also coached basketball for 22 years at South and Central.
"To leave Central was a tremendously difficult decision for me,” said Bigsby. “I love this place and I love the people in this place. Central has played a very important role in my life and my family’s life. Two of my three daughters attended and graduated from Central and my youngest will be a senior at Central this upcoming year. With all of the changes coming to OPS, I felt this was the right thing to do for myself and the district—time to move on and give someone else a chance. I am very proud to have had the opportunity to be a part of best urban district in the country and have the chance to lead the finest downtown high school in the country.”
Bigsby looks forward to having more time for deferred chores and other interests, including painting the house, watching his daughters play collegiate soccer and doing some consulting work.
