Cemetery petition effort comes to life again. The petition circulation started in the spring in southeast Cass County. About 600 signatures were gathered. The canvassing was suspended during the hot summer weather but organizers recently met and decided to resume the effort.
Over 1,000 signatures are needed according to the Cassgram.
If successful, this would start the public hearing and official notification process to establish the Eastern Cass Pioneer Cemetery District which would maintain and restore 17 pioneer cemeteries in the proposed district. The district would be that part of Cass County which is east of 84th street and south of Plattsmouth.
The group is pledging a tax rate lower than any other taxing entity on your annual tax statement.
