A 17-year-old Oakland, Iowa girl was taken to the hospital Tuesday after the ceiling in her home collapsed.
Family members told WOWT 6 News Carly Hunter was doing laundry, when the plaster ceiling in the laundry room fell on her. They said Hunter was momentarily knocked unconscious.
Carly's sister-in-law, Colbie Fike said, "Everybody comes in here running, Carly is screaming for her mom. Her mom comes in here, we are trying to brush stuff off of her while we are calling. They said not to move her or just do anything. Then an officer arrived, removed the rubble off her and stuff and then a bunch of paramedics came and took her."
The family said first-responders were on the scene within 10 minutes.
Hunter was taken to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs in serious condition but she is expected to make a full recovery. We're told that doctors determined she suffered a concussion and a spinal sprain.
The home is a rental property. The landlords responded immediately and told WOWT 6 News they're handling the clean-up.
