Caught On Camera, Then Caught By Police

An Omaha man called 911 Thursday morning to report his apartment was being burglarized. He knew this even though he wasn't home.

A burglar steals an iPad after he broke into apartment Thursday morning around 11:40. Turns out, it was being used as a video monitoring device.

"Separation anxiety, he was showing signs of that, I've been working on getting him accustomed to being left alone,” Anthony said. The relationship between a man named “Anthony” and his 3-year-old dog Brodie, goes beyond “a man’s best friend.”

"I've been using the monitor to try and see how the progress was going,” Anthony said.

That monitor was actually Anthony's iPad that can be set up to show video of the Boarder Terrier while Anthony is away at work; his cell phone provides the audio, video playback.

Thursday, Anthony was in for a surprise when he checked in on Broadie. "All of the sudden there was a man holding the iPad, like looking right at it, adrenaline just peaked up and the heart starts racing,” Anthony said.

The burglar was staring right back at Anthony, who could see the crime unfold inside his Cambridge Apartment residence near 96th and Q. Thinking nothing of it, the thief took the iPad, credit cards and a Play Station 3. “He took some of the Play Station games, the controllers,” Anthony added.

In spite of the panic, Anthony called police, who arrived in minutes. According to the reports, they found the suspect in the parking lot, outside of the building and in possession of all the stolen items.

Police arrested 31-year-old Ronney Perry and booked him for one count of burglary.

"Lucky me he did get caught," Anthony said. Reporter asked, "Did you think your technology would do that?" "Not that, no,” Anthony replied.

Police are not releasing Perry's mug shot. They are investigating his possible involvement in other crimes.
