Sarpy County authorities are looking for a pair of bandits who tackled a car wash. They missed the money but did some damage.
Dave Wilwerding is co-owner of the Tornado car wash near 144th and Giles and he says, “They probably thought if they could get this out they could reach up in there to get to the money,” but they couldn’t pull it off. “These things are like a vault,” he said.
They only broke out the credit card reader.
Twice in the course of 10 days burglars hit the car wash starting with a vacuum coin box stealing less than $40.
The thieves drilled through a lock that gave them access to another drill hole that led to the coins. But tough locks are on the way. They won't find it as easy in the future.
The burglars hit the evening of a car wash day.
Co-owner Doug Wilwerding said, “I think they've done it before. I think they're pretty brave doing this in front of all the traffic coming into the car wash at the time.”
The suspects drove a Cavalier convertible with a luggage rack.
