Car Thief To Be Sentenced

Car thief to be sentenced May 28th. The 32-year-old from Nebraska City pled guilty to two Class IV Felonies for two car thefts last year.

The first theft occurred in the parking lot of the Casey’s convenience store in Eagle on November 4th. A Geo Tracker was stolen. There was a tractor part in the car.

The Cassgram reports the Cass County Sheriff’s Department was looking for Will B. Neeman as a suspect after store video surveillance was viewed.

Chief Deputy Cass County Attorney Colin Palm said a sheriff’s deputy saw the Geo Tracker on Highway 75 near Waconda Road on November 17th and initiated a pursuit but the Tracker left the highway and Neeman ran away on foot.

Unbeknownst at the time to the deputies and state patrol troopers assisting with the search, Neeman then stole a Dodge pickup from a rural residence about a half-mile from where the pursuit had stopped at 12th and Leighton Avenue. A state trooper made contact with the pickup driver but did not know the driver was the suspect. Authorities later pieced the scenario together when the stolen pickup report was received.

Law enforcement also found that Neeman had left his wallet in the 1994 Tracker.

Neeman was later arrested and the pickup was found in Otoe County.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, both sides will be free to argue for jail or probation, but it was agreed that any incarceration sentences on the two counts be served concurrently. Palm said Neeman also agreed to pay over $800 in restitution.

Neeman remains free on bond.
