The latest annual report on crime in Lincoln shows the state's capital city saw a drop in some violent crimes last year, although reports of rape were up.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that felony assaults decreased to 603 incidents, compared with 927 in 2010. Robberies fell only slightly to 176 from 178. Murder rose to four in 2011, from three the year before.

While other violent crimes dropped or were stagnant, the numbers show reports of rape continue to climb, to 170 last year from 144 the year before - the highest in at least 10 years.

Police Chief Jim Peschong says that doesn't mean more rapes are being committed, but could reflect that more rapes are being reported than in years past.
