Candle Lighting Ceremony
Sunday, December 8, 2013
Kroc Center, 2825 Y Street
Doors Open At 6 p.m.
A candle lighting ceremony is planned in Omaha on Sunday as a way to help remember and honor memories of children who have died.
Held annually the second Sunday in December, this will be the 17th Worldwide Candle Lighting sponsored by The Compassionate Friends (TCF), the nation’s largest self-help bereavement organization for families that have suffered the tragic loss of a child.
TCF has more than 650 chapters in the United States, with sister organizations in at least 30 countries around the globe, including a chapter in Omaha.
Organizers say the Worldwide Candle Lighting is one way that they try to bring light out of darkness during this difficult time of the year. "Like a ring, this circle of light surrounding the globe represents that there is no beginning and no end for the love we carry for our children."
The Compassionate Friends Greater Omaha Chapter will be sponsoring the candle lighting ceremony for the metro area.
The ceremony will be held at the Kroc Center, 2825 Y Street, Omaha, Nebraska. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m.
