Blair, Nebraska may be the happiest place on earth this evening. Dana College, closed for almost three years is re-opening.
Midland University is buying the campus and plans to offer classes as soon as possible.
Amy Hanson has lived in Blair for the past seven years and knows first hand how the loss of the school impacted the community.
But Thursday morning's announcement caught her by surprise, almost.
Amy Hanson says, "I hadn't heard any rumors until two days ago."
Three weeks ago Midland University contacted Blair Mayor Jim Realph, since then the acquisition of the Dana College Campus has been on the fast track
The sale is expected to re-energize Blair and benefit Midland as well.
Kari Ridder says, "We have a need for more space to serve more students and the opportunity to do that in a place like this is rare and unique so near our campus we are excited about that possibility."
The people in Blair are excited as well but some wonder how the new Midland University Campus will differ from Dana College.
Midland officials don't have any details yet but they say they want to keep the Dana name associated with the campus.
Amy Hanson is more concerned with the vitality campus life will bring with it.
Amy Hanson says, "Absolutely because I think that the students will stay here to go to class and live in the dorms and apartment buildings. I think it will be great."
Any economic boost that comes with the return of the campus is welcomed as well.
Midland University officials say they have the money to purchase the campus and begin renovations but will need some additional funding to bring the campus up to speed.
