The Nebraska Arts Council (NAC) has announced a call for entries for the 2013 Individual Artist Fellowship (IAF) award program in Visual Arts. The NAC IAF Fellowship awards, determined via a competitive review process, recognize exemplary career achievements by Nebraska artists.
The awards are provided to Nebraska artists in the form of cash awards and public honor. Artists who are Nebraska residents and have made a professional commitment to their artistic field are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is at midnight (CST), on Nov. 15, 2012.
Applications are being taken via the Nebraska Arts Council’s online application and review service, SlideRoom. Complete information on how to apply, including eligibility, portfolio criteria, and the link to the online application portal, is available on NAC’s website, www.nebraskaartscouncil.org (go to the Artists/IAF section). Artists apply directly online at https://nebraska.slideroom.com/#/Login. The simple application process includes completing the application form and uploading digital media. A nominal $5 processing fee is assessed at the time of application.
Applications are reviewed anonymously by a panel of three jurors who are professionals in the artistic discipline under review and who reside outside of the state of Nebraska. Evaluations are made first and foremost on the quality of work submitted, which includes innovation demonstrated by significant critical and aesthetic considerations explored through the art form.
Jury panel recommendations are forwarded to the Nebraska Arts Council board for approval. The Fellowship awardees will be announced in the spring of 2013 following ratification of the recommendations by the NAC board at its April meeting.
The IAF program supports the creative efforts of Nebraska's individual artists and writers by providing recognition of exemplary achievements by artists in their fields of discipline. Each year, the program rotates among major artistic categories: Literature, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts/Filmmaking. The next category under consideration for 2014 will be Performing Arts/Filmmaking.
Interested artists are encouraged to contact JD Hutton, who manages the IAF program. She can be reached at (402) 595.2142/(800) 341.4067, or jayne.hutton@nebraska.gov.
