Investigators say they have a suspect in custody in connection with a robbery in which a metro cab driver was locked in the trunk of his vehicle.
The suspect is identified as Michael Hodges. He was arrested in Council Bluffs on warrants from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and the Omaha Police Department in an unrelated case.
Authorities believe that Hodges is the man who robbed a cabbie in March. In that incident, the driver picked up a fare at 13th and Jackson and drove him to 72 and Sorensen.
"Next thing I know I felt a gun to the back of my head," said Don Vanderwerf, the victim.
Vanderwerf handed over cash, his wallet and was then told to get into the trunk of the car. The robber drove the vehicle to 82nd and Read, let the driver out of the trunk, and drove off. The victim was unharmed. The cab was recovered near 79th and Read.
Hodges, arrested on Sunday, also faces charges of possession of marijuana.
