'Tis the season for some people to try to get their Christmas presents for free. But business owners are on the lookout.

At Legend Comics, owners are keeping an eye out for items that may walk out the door.
"It's an ongoing concern for any retail establishment so you take the steps that you can to prevent it, and you cross your fingers," Jason Dasenbrock with Legend Comics said.

Dasenbrock tries to cut down on shoplifting in a few ways. He tries to have a relationship with his customers and also keeps things that are expensive and easy to put in your pocket behind the counter.

Because for small businesses like Legend Comics, it can have a big impact. "Obviously as small business we don't have the ability to write off millions of dollars in losses the way some of the national chains would. It also hurts because it feels like a violation because we know a lot of our customers," Dasenbrock said.

Officials warn the consumer to watch out for thefts this time of year. They suggest not leaving gifts in your vehicle for very long, that can make them targets.
