Lincoln is moving ahead with plans for a state-run archery and shooting ranch in a city park despite complaints from a couple opening a similar operation.
J.J. Yost, a city planning and construction manager says city and state officials are negotiating with a company to design the $2 million range in Boosalis Park. The state Game and Parks Commission will operate the shooting range.
Commission deputy director Tim McCoy says the range will promote hunting and fishing.
A couple who is spending at least $1 million on a shooting range opening within weeks opposes the competition.
James and Teri Clark say government shouldn't compete with a private business. Since the public range is proceeding, Teri Clark says the couple will work with the park facility.
