Sergeant's Pet Care is building a national distribution center in LaVista.
The three hundred and fifty thousand foot center will add forty jobs to the area initially and plans are in place to grow that number to sixty jobs over time.
LaVista Mayor Doug Kindig says "obviously they're making an investment in Sarpy County, it's gonna add some jobs to our community and to have an established business choose Sarpy County and LaVista we're excited".
Sergeant's already has a production facility nearby. The company's current distribution center is in Memphis, Tennessee. When the new facility is completed the distribution operations will move here.
Geography played a role in the decisiion to move. Nebraska is at the center of the country and is closer to Sergeant's operation in Kansas City.
The local workforce also played a role. Nick Grubser, Vice President for Operations and Supply Chain says Sergeants "the people here in Omaha are great folks and we like the work ethic here of course and so we're excited about bringing those jobs back here to Omaha".
Grubser also cites Nebraskas business climate. He says "with the city of LaVista and Sarpy County and Nebraska we were able to achieve some great tax benefits by moving out of the state of Tennessee back to the state of Nebraska".
The center is expected to open in October
