Bus, Car and Plane: Christmas Eve Traveling

As many hunkered down to start celebrating Christmas over the next two days, some were still on their way to grandma’s house Monday.

The day was busy for travel by bus, plane or car; millions took to the roads and the skies.

At Eppley Airfield, it was a busy morning and early afternoon for passengers coming and going. Despite the lines at the airport however, travelers said for the most part things were smooth.

"Delayed about 15 minutes, should be pretty good. I think we should get in time for Christmas, in time for Santa to come,” Nick Matthews said. A process Nick Matthews, his fiancé and their 3 year old daughter expected to go a lot better the second time around.

"Looks like it is going to be better than the trip out here, it should be good," Nicole Sisnerous said. Sisnerous and Matthews now live in Denver, where they were headed off to Monday. Reporter asks, "How was that?" "We were on the plane on the ground, more than we were in the air because they to de-ice all the planes but she [my daughter] thought it was awesome,” Nicole Sisnerous said.

In downtown Omaha, Andrea Deering was waiting to catch a Trailways bus to Brookings, South Dakota. All buses were on schedule by mid-morning. "Nobody wanted to drive me, I didn't want to drive,” Deering said. In all, Deering would log over 5 hours on the road by the end of the day Christmas Eve. Reporter asks, "Is it worth all the traveling during the holidays?" "I think so, I get to see my family, both families,” Deering said.

"They've been, they've been clear, a couple of back streets back here were icy but other than that everything was clear. Highways are real clear,” Russell Vaughn said.

Vaughn was a little worried the roads would be busy and messy after the recent blizzard but was surprised to learn the contrary. But, Vaughn did have good reason to think it would be crowded on the interstate, according to AAA, more than 93 million of people will travel 50 miles or more over the holidays.
