The burn ban that has been in effect for Pottawattamie County for the last several months has been lifted.
The extremely dry seasonal conditions prompted a three-month burn ban for residents in the county. "The burning ban was a necessary tool to help reduce the potential for widespread, devastating fires throughout the county," said Doug Reed, director of the Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Agency, in a press release.
Although the ban has been lifted, the agency cautions people overseeing a burn to have water or other measures in place that can prevent the spread of fires. Different cities have different ordinances in place that might still restrict or prohibit burns.
