Police arrest a man they say may be behind more than a dozen burglaries here in the metro. The man has been seen in several burglaries. The first, breaking into the Douglas County Treasurer’s office, then Rusty Nail. Police believe he is connected with several break-ins.
“It was something that I didn't want to have to walk into but I did,” said James Walsh.
It's a Sunday morning Walsh will never forget.
“We could see the guys walking through the bar but we couldn't see their faces, they were covered up,” said Walsh.
Back in October, two thieves broke into Rusty Nail. Monday, police arrested this man, 28-year-old Dustin Jones for the break-in.
But police say Rusty Nail wasn’t the first victim. Jones allegedly hit six businesses before that. First he hit the Douglas County Treasurers Office, then The Bookworm and neighboring business Village Grinder.
“When you think they were down here, hanging out in your office, what were they doing, that's the part that puts you over the edge,” said owner Pat Dudziak back in August.
Jones allegedly broke into the office, took more than a thousand dollars from the cash register and stole a camera. Then he broke through the door that connects the two businesses. Both businesses have since cleaned up the mess and are running as usual.
Back at Rusty Nail, Walsh says they've installed a security system but they're happy at least one of these thieves is behind bars.
“We're happy it is not going to happen to anyone else,” said Walsh.
This isn't the first time Jones has been in trouble with the law. He has served time for burglary and is suspected in several ATM thefts.
