Two burglary suspects were taken into custody Sunday morning, but not before a chase and two hit-and-run accidents.
Police investigating a report of a burglary in progress just before 9 a.m. at a business near North 37th Street and Crown Point Avenue spotted a vehicle leaving the area. When officers tried to pull the vehicle over near Fontenelle Boulevard and Sorensen Parkway it collided with a cruiser. One of the suspects got out and ran while the driver took off. Forty-seven-year-old Thomas Lewis was soon apprehended and booked for burglary.
Meanwhile, the driver hit another vehicle and two mailboxes near 46th and Kansas. It was there that he got out and ran away while the vehicle was still moving. It rolled into a residence at North 47th Street and Kansas Avenue.
Police captured that suspect, 41-year-old Cortez Johnson, and booked for him for burglary, four counts of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, operating a vehicle while under the influence of narcotics and operating during suspension along with six misdemeanor warrants.
No serious injuries were reported.
