Burglary Suspect Captured - On Camera

Omaha police want our help in locating a burglar who has been hitting high-end neighborhoods.

So far he has eluded capture, but a new security camera picture may change all that. The burglary suspect has been breaking into homes and cars for at least the last four months, probably longer. Luck has played a role in his ability to keep stealing, but that luck may have run out.

A security camera at a Hy-Vee store got a good picture of the suspect and police are certain someone can identify the thief. "We're not aware of who this individual is, but putting that image out there for the public, we believe that somebody does know who he is and will turn that information in to us," says OPD Officer James Shade.

In October, police sent an image of the suspect around, believing it is the same man as the latest photo. No one recognized the man in the photo taken in October. Police believe that may have been because the hood he was wearing was partially covering his face.

The credit card used that day was stolen from a woman in the Summerwood neighborhood. Although not out much money, she says she lost some things that simply are irreplaceable. She chose not to participate in our story, but says she would make herself available to prosecutors in the case.

The latest victim lives in the Regency neighborhood and lost an Escalade and several credit cards. A short time later, one of the security cameras at Hy-Vee got the right angle and it may be the key to stopping the burglar.
