Fire tore through a diesel repair business in Bennington on Monday afternoon sending huge plumes of smoke into the air that could be seen for miles.

The fire was at 209 South Stark Street. The building houses C&C Complete Incorporated, a diesel repair and performance shop.

The fire broke out around 5 p.m. and one neighbor said she smelled smoke, then heard several explosions.

The building is filled with fuel and auto parts. Firefighters from several jurisdictions were called in to help battle the flames.

The photo on the left was taken by a neighbor, Beverly Smith, just as the fire broke out. Smith told WOWT 6 News, "I could see billowing flames coming right out of this building right here, then just boom, boom, a lot of booms."

Traffic in the area was hampered as motorists watched the huge plumes of smoke rise.

There were no reports of injuries. There was no immediate word on what might have started the fire.

WOWT 6 News did speak with the owner of the business at the scene but he did not have any comment at that time.
