When the cameras pointed to First Lady Michelle Obama Tuesday night, check out who is sitting with her. Warren Buffett’s secretary, Debbie Bosanek, has been invited as a guest at Tuesday’s State of the Union Address.
Bosanek, with a red blazer, sat directly behind the First Lady. President Obama did not mention her name -- only her situation.
Buffett has frequently mentioned his secretary when explaining his position on the imbalance of taxes between wealthy and ordinary taxpayers. The President wants to adopt the so-called Buffett Rules that millionaires should not play lower tax rates than the middle class.
Specifically, if you make more than $1-million a year, you should not pay less than 30% in taxes according to the President's plan.
"Now, you can call this class warfare all you want," said President Obama, "But asking a billionaire to pay at least as much as his secretary in taxes? Most Americans would call that common sense."
Also invited to accompany the First Lady is Adam Rapp, a cancer survivor whom the White House says benefited from health care reform.
Mark Kelly, former astronaut and husband of outgoing Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, was also there with the First Lady. Giffords is resigning to focus on her recovery after being shot a year ago.
