Omaha original, Brix, a wine and spirits store officially opens in midtown Omaha Monday, with a grand opening of its Midtown Crossing location.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. will mark the occasion.

The location will offer a full-menu Bistro; a wine, beer, spirits “and more” retail store; and a state-of-the-art event centre.

The owner said guests will notice a lot of similarities – and a lot of differences — between the original Village Pointe operation in west Omaha and the new Midtown Crossing location.

“We have the same premium wine selection, a great beer selection, and a great premium spirits selection. We also have the same fantastic single malt scotch selection, almost identical to Village
Pointe,” Dan Matuszek explained.

Differences emerge in the layout of the two locations. Midtown Crossing’s is more of an “integrated model.” “We have the same three components, but they’re more integrated into one. There isn’t a
separation between the Bistro and the retail store. At Midtown Crossing, you’ll be able to try 64 different wines right where you buy them,” said Matuszek. “The Midtown Crossing location really is more of a ‘Bistro first, retail store second concept.’ There is a lot more emphasis on the food and highlighting the talents of who we think
is one of the great young chefs in Omaha, our executive chef Erik Rickard.”

The Bistro at the Midtown Crossing location also features a larger bar area for drinks and cocktails, plus 27 different premium craft beers and Sprecher Root Beer on draught – not currently available at Brix Village Pointe. Outside, guests will soon be able to socialize on a huge patio.

“Our next project is the design of what will become one of Omaha’s largest outdoor patios, which we’re working on getting ready for spring,” said Matuszek.

The Brix patio will feature multiple fire pits with capacity for about 100-150 people. “It’s going to be impressive, especially for events like Jazz on the Green and the Outdoor Concert Series,” he said.
