Brewery Burglary

An 800-pound beer canning machine has been stolen by burglars who probably used the Davenport, Iowa brewery's forklift.

Great River Brewery brew master Paul Krutzfeldt found the forklift in a nearby alley. The canning machine was stolen Sunday night or early Monday from Great River Brewery.

Krutzfeldt says it'll cost $70,000 to $100,000 to replace the machine, which is key to his operation. He says 70 percent of his business is canning and supplying beer to 10 distributors in six states. Until he can replace the canning machine, the beer is being stored in kegs.

Krutzfeldt also is contemplating an offer by a Nebraska company to temporarily can his beer.
