Update: Victim Speaks After Teenagers Invade Home, Steal Car

A woman who fell victim to a bizarre home invasion told WOWT 6 News Wednesday that she feels lucky to be alive. Omaha Police said two teenage boys, ages 14 and 15, were arrested Tuesday in connection with the home invasion and auto theft.

Police said the suspects made their way into the victim's home at North 39th Street and Nebraska Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The victim, who does not want to be named, said they came in through an unlocked side door. She said the time of day took her by surprise, and she always felt safe leaving her door unlocked for a few minutes in the afternoon.

She said One suspect came in with a gun, and now she is just thankful she's alive. "And all i kept seeing was little flashes of my life and bits and pieces of that -- one second and it could be all gone."

The victim's mother also lives at the residence. Police said the suspects took the mother's car keys and vehicle, and then fled.

The OPD helicopter spotted the vehicle near 38th and Ida around 5:45 p.m. Officers on the ground tried to pull the driver over, but he kept going and crashed near 28th and Potter. The driver hit a tree, and knocked it to the ground. Four teenagers were captured following a brief foot chase. In the end, police told WOWT 6 News they only arrested two of them.

The 14-year-old was booked for theft by receiving and felony flight to avoid arrest. The 15-year-old was booked for theft by receiving. Their names are not being released due to their age.

The victim said she will now never leave her door unlocked, no matter the circumstance, and will also hide any car keys in her home.
