Boys & Girls Club Of The Midlands Awards Youth Of The Year
Tears once filled with so much pain, now flow out of gratitude.
"She didn't really think that there was a future in Mexico," Jorge Ayon said.
After moving to Omaha, Ayon soon joined the Boys & Girls club. "Jorge started coming to the club around 7, almost 8 years old," Tony Gonzalez said. "He came in as a shy kid."
Over the next decade Jorge's disposition would change and Gonzalez would become one of Jorge's mentors.
"Not really having a father in life, it was hard growing up," Ayon said. "I mean, I was getting in trouble, not just me but my brother too."
The trouble ended when he started getting involved at the club. "One day I decided, I want to do something, here at the club," Ayon said. "I decided I wanted to come volunteer in the kitchen."
He started by taking out the trash. Now, he practically runs the joint. With many important people believing in him.
The club that helped raise him, that helped earn him a deferred action status, awarded him Youth of the Year.
