Cass County officials said Cruz was injured around 8 p.m. Tuesday when a five to six inch tree branch broke through his leg.
Channel 6 News received a statement from his family who says he was playing a game of "capture the flag" when he fell and the end of a large tree branch impaled his leg.
According to the Camp Kataki Facebook page: "During a game of Capture the Flag the camper slipped and fell landing on a log, with a stick entering his leg. We will update everyone as we hear more. Safety is a very important part of Camp at Kitaki with all of our staff being first aid and CPR certified, and us being accredited by the American Camp Association for following their standards for the safety and well being."
Cruz is feeling okay. Also according to Facebook, the camp staff has processed the incident with campers who were there, making sure everyone understands what happened.
