Boy Dies Of Drug Overdose

An investigation into a 10-year-old boy's death heats up after the cause of death is determined.

Shykell Robinson was found unresponsive this past April. The boy died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The cause of death, drug overdose, has renewed interest in the case.

Desirae Lynn Greenhagen just knows that one of her friends simply stopped coming around after school. She and Alivia Cullen and the other members of the group soon found out that Shykell had mysteriously died. "I used to hang out with him every day, mostly every day. We used to ride bikes, hang out and play."

Rumors about how and why Shykell died soon were all over the school. Since April, Shykell's death had been a mystery.

First responders were called to his house and found him unresponsive. Shykell was rushed to Immanuel Hospital, but he died shortly afterward. There were no signs of any physical injuries and 10-year-old-boys simply do not die. An autopsy was ordered, but the initial reports came back inconclusive and then the toxicology screen came back. It found that Shykell died from an overdose of methadone, oxycodone, lorazepam and haloperidol.

Now the question is why? "Certainly it is one that we need to answer here to find out how this 10-year-old could have possibly gotten these sort of drugs into his system and it killed him and it is a terribly sad case and very disturbing," said Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine.

He said if the investigation finds the person responsible for Shykell's death, they will be held accountable.

In another action, the Juvenile Court removed Shykell's four siblings from their mother's home. The court cited filthy living conditions, spoiled food and insects as the reasons to place the children with an aunt.
