An early morning fire in a rail yard, fills a western Lincoln neighborhood with smoke.
Just after midnight Tuesday, Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail yard on West O Street on reports of a boxcar on fire.
BNSF officials confirmed the rail car was carrying bales of recycled papers.
Smoke and steam from the fire could be seen for miles and light winds had it lingering in the area for hours.
Fire crews spent several hours working to extinguish the fire. Scanner reports indicated the bales had to be pulled from the car by hand to get to all the smoldering paper.
Crews were able the extinguish the flames early Tuesday morning.
