Both drivers face charges after a two-car crash that seriously injured an Iowa woman.

The vehicles collided at 13th and Missouri Avenue in Omaha just before 10:30 p.m. Police say the driver of a southbound Chevy Malibu was turning left to go over the Veterans Memorial Bridge and had a green turn signal when the driver of a northbound Ford Crown Victoria ran a red light. The impact nearly sliced the Chevy in half.

A passenger in the Chevy, 19-year-old Danielle Jepsen of Earling, Iowa, was ejected from the wreckage. She was hospitalized in serious but stable condition suffering from broken ribs, a lacerated kidney, a lacerated liver, a lacerated spleen, fractured orbital and a fractured shoulder blade.

Alcohol was a factor with both drivers. The driver of the Chevy, 19-year-old Jake Fitch of Mondamin, Iowa, was ticketed for DUI.

The driver of the Ford, 22-year-old Juan Baca of Omaha, was charged with felony DUI causing serious bodily injury, felony DUI third offense over .15, assault on an officer bodily fluids, driving under suspension, violating a traffic control signal and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The car he was driving did not have license plates.
