Books by the Busload

Busloads of books are headed for the metro; free reads for thousands.

It’s part of the Books by the Busload campaign engineered by Metropolitan Community College, AIT Worldwide Logistics, Cargo Zone, Metro transit and Lutheran Family Services.

They’ll be giving away 15,000 free, new books at three Omaha locations on March 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Since 2011, Books by the Busload has given away books via Metro bus to area families. This year, buses will be at Heartland Workforce Solutions in North Omaha, the Salvation Army Kroc Center in South Omaha and Westroads Mall in West Omaha.

The public is invited to browse the books in a library-like setting on the Metro buses and take home titles for free. Fiction and nonfiction books are available for all ages and reading levels.

Any books that remain after the event will be donated to the Cornhusker Community Book Drive.

Here is the schedule:
Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22
10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Westroads Mall, 10000 California St.: parking lot in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods
The Salvation Army Kroc Center: 2825 Y St., front parking lot
Heartland Workforce Solutions: 5752 Ames Ave.
