Bone Marrow Awareness Day Set For Sunday Game

The Nebraska basketball program is teaming up with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness for bone marrow donation.

Bone Marrow Donation Awareness Day is set for Sunday when the Huskers host Minnesota. Fans can sign up for the national bone marrow registry and can also receive match kits/swabs and take the test to be a potential bone marrow match.

Bone marrow transplants replace bone marrow that has been damaged or destroyed by chemotherapy or radiation to treat leukemia and other cancers.

The Husker basketball program has been affected by leukemia. Avery Harriman, the son of assistant coach Chris Harriman, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was 2 years old. Avery underwent a bone marrow transplant last year, and is now leukemia free.
