Authorities have released the name of a man whose body was found at the bottom of a rock quarry in northeast Iowa. Thirty-year-old Douglas Wernke of Dyersville had been reported missing May 13.
Wernke's body and a burned-out sport utility vehicle were found Friday evening at the quarry just south of Dyersville.
The sheriff's office says Wernke was alone in his SUV when it ran off a bluff into the quarry. He was ejected on impact and the SUV was destroyed by an explosion and fire.
The investigation is continuing, but the office says a crime is not suspected in Wernke's death.
