Omaha homicide detectives are investigating a garage fire where a man was found dead inside.
A passerby first reported smoke coming from the direction of a vacant home on 28th Street between Woolworth and Hickory shortly before 2 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found a detached garage on fire.
The fire was put out quickly, but upon inspecting the damage, firefighters located a body on the floor of the garage. They said the fire appeared to be "suspicious" even before the discovery.
An autopsy will be conducted Friday to determine the man's identity and a preliminary cause of death.
The house was being renovated.
