A 17-month-old Blair girl found unresponsive in a back yard pool at an in-home day care Wednesday morning was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police officers and members of the volunteer fire and rescue department were called to the home at 28th and Sunrise Drive around 10:30 a.m.
The caller told police that the child was found in four feet of water in a back yard pool. The child was one of several at the home at the time of the incident. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
The Blair Police Department, along with the Nebraska Department Of Health and Human Services, is investigating the incident. Blair Police Lt. Aaron Barrow suspects the child may have drowned. Lt. Barrow said the day care provider did take steps to safeguard the above-ground pool. There is a railing and a gate.
