The "B-Cycle" Program is expanding in Omaha. The program that started off slow is quickly gaining momentum on metro streets.
They're the funny looking blue bikes you may have seen rolling around Aksarben Village. The B-Cycle Bike Share Program started three years ago and is catching on with the public.
More than 3,000 bikes have been shared since the program started.
B-Cycle Program Director, Ben Turner says, "That averages out to about five or six rides per day, there are some days were we have three or four rides and there are days we have 15 or 20 rides, it sort of depends on the weather and what is going on."
Those share numbers jumped when temporary B-Cycle locations were opened downtown during the College World Series.
Ben Turner says, "We're well positioned to move forward and expand."
Turner says Omaha's bike share numbers put it in the middle third of the 30 sharing programs in the U.S. but he expects those numbers, and Omaha's program to continue to grow.
The program allows a person to purchase a daily, monthly or annual pass. You can share a bike as many times as you would like during that period of time
You can check out and return the bike at any of the now eight share locations but checkouts longer than an hour will incur additional charges.
