Berkshire Hathaway shareholders are choosing Airbnb over hotels after Warren Buffett encouraged them to try the cheaper option this weekend.
A couple who normally uses the site as guests decided to open up their home as hosts, and booked two shareholders for the weekend.
"I saw Warren Buffett calling for Omahans to start hosting the shareholders in their homes because of the rising prices and hotel rates," said Bethany Haubert.
Immediately after the couple saw Buffett's request, Airbnb recruiters contacted them asking if they could stay in their home for the week.
Mid-April, the recruiters hosted gatherings urging people who normally use their site as guests to begin as hosts, and offering hosting tips.
"The people that stayed with us--their job was to travel to different cities like Omaha or Des Moines or Kansas City and find people in those cities who were the kinds of folks who would host," said Sumeet Jain, Haubert's fiance.
Many say they enjoy meeting new people, and the extra cash it brings.
"Everybody who uses Airbnb is just adventurous and friendly and excited to meet new people," said Haubert.
The couple and many other hosts boosted their rates for the weekend, and will boost them for the College World Series.
