Benson Seniors Petitioning Honorary Diploma For Murdered Classmate

Seniors at Benson High School have graduation on the mind as they dig deeper into their final semester.

Something they can't forget though, is they'll be missing a classmate at the ceremony this spring.

Eriana Carr was shot and killed in front of her house in October of 2012.

In her memory, her friend and classmate, Willecia Jones, started a petition to get the school to award Carr and honorary diploma.

Jones says Carr had high grades and big dreams.

She knows Carr would have graduated if she had the chance.

"I just want for this to be a tradition; that Omaha Benson started this; that people who have lost their lives innocently they area allowed to get their diploma because Eriana had grades. She was just a model student," Jones says.

Jones says she has around 100 signatures so far, but she's just getting started.

Later when she has enough, she'll present them to the school principal.
