Benson JROTC Bound for Normandy

Members of Benson High School’s JROTC wiil travel overseas to participate in a big anniversary celebration. Twenty-seven members will travel to Normandy to celebrate the 70th D-Day anniversary.

The group will march in the parade at Sainte-Mere-Eglise on June 6, representing the State of Nebraska.

Members raised $91,000 over the past year to help pay for the trip.

Junior Katie Glessman said, “We did car washes, we did pancake feeds, we've done American Legion breakfasts, we've done a lot of stuff. We sold cookie dough. Every student pitches in because it’s a great opportunity.”

The Benson JROTC was also selected to be the honor guard for the Omaha Beach veterans.
