Nebraska Supreme Court Judge John Gerrard can thank U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson not only for recommending Gerrard for a federal bench, but for going to bat for the judge on the U.S. Senate floor.
Nelson, a Democrat, spoke Monday on the floor of the Senate in support of Gerrard's nomination to be U.S. District judge for the District of Nebraska. The Senate confirmed Gerrard's nomination 74-16 after the speech.
President Barack Obama nominated Gerrard in May.
In his floor speech, Nelson touted Gerrard's legal record, and said Gerrard "will follow legal precedent to carry out the law, rather than interpret it as he sees fit."
