Bellevue To Compete In National Recycling Challenge

Bellevue is gearing up to compete in a nationwide recycling challenge. The city could win the $100,000 grant prize.

Don Preister works with Green Bellevue, a group that's very active in encouraging recycling. Its latest venture is the S.C. Johnson Green Choices Challenge. Bellevue was selected to represent Nebraska.

The city that wins will need to have the highest percentage of participating households. Thankfully, Preister says that recycling couldn't be easier in Bellevue. If people don't have one of the free bins they can slap a Greeen Bellevue recycling sticker on their own bin.

To win the six-month challenge, people must start recycling this week until the end of the year. Preister believes 95 percent of households will need to participate in order to win.

If you would like to participate, visit the Web site greenbellevue.org. Those living in the 68005 zip code, north of Mission Street, are eligible.
