There was quite a show Monday afternoon for some residents in Bellevue after a water main break near 25th and Holly Streets. Neighbors were glad crews were able to clean it up before there was severe damage.
Water was trailing down Holly Street, right in front of Allen Poloncic’s yard. Crews from Metropolitan Utility District worked to clean up what this water main break left behind.
“My mom had called and said she heard the water gushing out of the front yard. She looked outside and said the water was shooting higher than our trees,” said Poloncic. “They’ve been trying to clean the mud up off the street. And the guys down in the hole cut the section out that was broke and put a new piece in there.”
He works in construction but he didn’t expect this would happen in front of his house.
“You hear about it all over town but you never expect it right in front of your house,” said Poloncic.
Just up the street Lee Swanson, a 52 year resident, watched the water main break from his lawn.
“I just came out and went down to the end of my lot and water was shooting 100 feet in the air,” said Swanson.
He is thankful he lives up the hill from the water main break.
Back at Polonic's house, the large hole in his front yard was nothing compared to the damage that others could have sustained.
“MUD did a good job, they got right on it and got it fixed,” said Poloncic.
As of Monday afternoon no homes were badly damaged. Poloncic owns some of the property at the bottom of the hill. He says water pushed a lot of mud on those properties.
